Mountain Snowfall Over Ashcroft
Once a thriving silver mining town in Colorado's history during the 1800's, Ashcroft was abandoned after the silver deposits dwindled. But in 1883, Ashcroft was a town with a population of 2,000 or more with two newspapers, a school, sawmills, a small smelter, six hotels and 20 saloons; bigger than Aspen, Colorado. Today, just 9 buildings remain including the post office, several cabins, an outhouse, a couple of the once roaring saloons and a hotel.
An early snow storm blanketed the Elk Mountain Range and created a ghostly, somber feel to the town, but the beauty of the golden leafed aspens against the white, mountain snow was beautiful, peaceful.
