Shattered Angel

This image is too confusing but sometimes confusing is OK.

The basic figure is a ceramic angel from a garage sale. I decided that I would try and add a halo using some blue EL wire left over from my Burning Man days.

In the before image the halo is obvious but in the high speed image the EL wire whipping around in the explosion got kind of confusing. It actually survived which I think was purely chance.

Had a nice bike ride today on my new wheels. A few months ago I had a minor fall that put a bump on the rim my Mavic Ksyrium rear wheel. When I looked into repair I found out what a racket it was. You can't order a new rim, the only option is to send the things in to get repaired.

So I decided to build a new set of conventional wheels. Only to find out that the world is just not set-up for wheel building anymore. Parts were out, lead times long and I made mistakes in spoke lengths. But finally both wheel are done and I really like them.

Unlike the super stiff Kysrium wheels, I don't wince when I go over small bumps. It's great going back to the past. Stiff wheels may be efficient but they sure doesn't feel good.

Silky ride.

Cheers.
