Shock Reflection

I am still (very) slowly trying to get some color Schlieren high speed photography. As far as I am concerned, it is a lot harder to do that than it is to do the high speed crap that I do.

 

At this point, I am kind of thinking that it may never happen.

 

This is not Schlerien photography, just high speed photography of glass under crossed polarizers. It does have some tiny bit of the colorful beauty of Schlieren photography.

 

In this picture you can see the impact of a pellet shattering glass and creating shock waves in the target. Since the shock waves in glass are much (8X) faster, getting the exact moment is much more a matter of chance.

 

This is a nice chance.
