Flower Wide-open. Scaeva pyrastri, Crescent Hoverfly, on Pelargonium patulum var. patulum, Gaping Storksbill, Hortus Botanicus, Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Not on a pear tree, as its Latin name suggests, our Crescent Hoverfly is foraging on a Gaping Storksbill. I don't much like that common name but can have recourse to others such as Trailing or Spreading Pelargonium. Anyway, the flower is wide open for the advances of Scaeva.
