Striped Eyes. Stomorhina lunata, Locust Blowfly, on Flowering Rush, Butomus umbellatus, Hortus Botanicus, Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Flowering Rush in our Hortus is almost at the end of its blossoming and is 'edging' brownish. Much of its pollen is already fallen on its petals. But Locust Blowfly is partaking direct from the stamens of the flower. This Blowfly is a relatively new species in The Netherlands. It naturalised here from southern, warmer regions since about 1990 and is now quite at home.
