Puncturing Spurs. Bombus terrestris, Buff-tailed Bumblebee, on Hollowroot, Corydalis cava, Hortus Botanicus, Amsterdam, The Netherlands

An early-flowering plant here is Hollowroot; in whites and purples they now cover the Hortus grounds. And, of course, they attract insects. Those creatures are often hard-put in accessing pollen and nectar deep within the spurs of the flowers. This Bumblebee has found a way 'in' by punturing the spur itself. Regard its proboscis forcing a way inward.
