Between Town and River. Plowed Land, De Pas, Doornenburg, Lingewaard, The Netherlands

I walked on the Rhine Levee near Doornenburg (see yesterday's photo), between the River and the low polders of the town. They'd just been plowed and glittered in the bright Sunlight.

My mind's ear picked up Virgil Thomson's (1896-1989) music to Pare Lorentz's (1905-1992) dual movie 'The Plow that Broke the Plains' and 'The River' (1936-1938). Those films were part of the US government's TVA initiative to counter the devastation of what had become the Dust Bowl caused at least in part by the indiscriminate disruption of the Great Plains.
