In 2018 the world championship in Sandsculpting was held due west of Amsterdam on the Northsea Beach at Zandvoort. Its winner was Sergio Ramírez Pérez (Catalunya, Spain). His inspiration for this sculpture of emotion and expression came from two drawings by Leonardo da Vinci, a Madonna and a horse. The sand sculpture was made durable and now sits on the beach walk to the north of Zandvoort.
