Prying open Pink. Vespula vulgaris, Common Wasp, on Redshank, Persicaria maculosa, Gaasperplaspark, Amsterdam, The Netherlands

The wind was choppy and chilly so I forwent a swim in my favorite Gaasperplas but looked out for Nature on my way around.

Here's a Common Wasp on Redshank, often disregarded by botanists as a boring plant. But the tiny flowers - if you do get to see them, they're so tiny! - are intricate and produce protein and sugar especially for Hoverflies and at this time of the year for Common Wasps.
