Furnishings of ancient Rome were the source of inspiration for the Roman Coffee Table. The most important record of furniture of the Roman period is the collection of carbonized furniture from Pompeii and Herculaneum. While the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 CE was tremendously destructive to the region, the hot ash that engulfed the towns of Pompeii and Herculaneum ultimately preserved the furniture in carbonized form.
The Roman Coffee Table was designed by award-winning designer Shah Gilani, ASFD. With its understated elegance, it makes an exceptional cocktail table for upscale residential and hospitality interiors. This versatile table has been used with a glass top in a formal area and with a stone top for a casual look. The base is offered in multiple sizes with various top options, including glass, stone, and wood. Robust metal construction allows the base to support even a heavy stone top without shaking. Four polished bronze glides are provided which also serve as levelers – a useful feature when the floor is uneven. The table base is offered in a variety of finishes. It is beautifully accented with polished bronze discs and a massive polished bronze boss in the center of the stretcher. Custom sizing is available.
