Mr Bushy
8598 Derby Research Centre 7th May 1978
Having secured a ticket for the 'Explore Britain' adex of Sunday 7th May 1978 from the East Midlands to Hartlepol, Sunderland & Newcastle I was already planning my moves for the day. By utilising the 1E75 0800 Birmingham New Street-Leeds which was diverted via Leicester I was able to make a much earlier start than that offered by the regular Sunday MML service on Table 53 which was the 1M32 0750 St Pancras-Manchester which didn't leave Leicester until 1010. Approaching Derby it was always traditional to cast a glance across the Research Centre sidings that today held Class 17 Clayton 8598 among the assembled curiosities displaying it's 'T' shaped tablet apparatus recess.
