Die Radschlaeger

This sculpture located near the Hexagon, Reading, England, was created in 1981 by Brian Slack to commemorate the links which Reading has had with Dusseldorf, Germany, since 1947.

Cartwheeling in Dusseldorf goes back to 1678 when a when a boy held on to a broken wheel on Prince Jan Wellem's coach to stop it falling off. He was given a gold coin. To this day boys in Dusseldorf turn cartwheels for money.
