'BED BUG' By Artist LYNDA CHRISTIAN
Made from the skeleton of a mattress, acetate discs.
I have always had a fondness for making something out of nothing and finding ‘Found Art.’ A couple of years ago I bought a mattress which left me with problem of disposing of the old one. I took it to pieces thinking the spring skeleton would be a good support for growing sugarsnap peas (had a lovely crop, mostly eating them straight from the plant when I cut the grass) . but during the winter seeing it stand upright I thought it might make a butterfly inspired sculpture. More a BED BUG as the mattress isn’t quite as flat as a butterflies’ wings. ?the legs are from an old school chair and the antenna from iron bars left in my garden after it was built which had been supporting beech saplings. I though of using old ed discs for scales but they seemed a bit too large so rummaged in the Christmas decoration box for some sparkle. The eyes are from Halloween glasses and pot scrubs.
