Sculpture Nr 6 "Biometrics"

Rundale Palace is one of the most remarkable examples of baroque and rococo architecture in Latvia. Situated in Pilsrundale, its foundations were laid in 1736 on the spot of an ancient Livonian castle mentioned in chronicles as far back as 1555.

It was planned and built as a summer residence for the Duke of Courland Ernst Johann von Biron by the Russian architect of Italian origin,

Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli. Construction work began in 1736 and was completed in 1768, with the architectural ensemble including household buildings and a park.

A museum was opened to the public in 1972, and restoration works have been taking place in order to restore its historic character and return the structure to its original condition.

The park at Rundale offers a delicate sample of the French garden in baroque style and is the most attractive of its kind in the Baltic region.

Each summer, a festival of celebration takes place at the park with locals and visitors, and at this event on the 13th August 2011 the works of the artists were displayed in one of the park alleys.

The sculptures were installed on specially designed bases created by masters of the metalworking and wood engraving arts. These decorative carvings were shaped in accordance with original baroque techniques and style. During the event, visitors had an opportunity to learn more about the project from the distributed booklets and posters that were prepared with stylish graphic calligraphy.

The sculptures were arranged within the space of its location to create distinctive compositions framed by the magical atmosphere of the architecture and the special treatment of the chiaroscuro to match the images with the deep meanings of the sculptures and emphasize the visual power of the material.

The 12 pictures taken during the photo session are placed in calendar - one image for each month.
