Golden slippers

Actually, this snowy egret (Egretta thula) was fishing in a canal that conveys water from the Sarasota County Celery Fields complex toward Phillipi Creek, near the Gulf of Mexico inland waterway. I wonder if the bright color on its feet serve as a form of disruptive coloration, reducing the likelihood that fish will perceive the gold-colored objects as connected to the dark legs.

This bird visited this site almost daily in February, 2022.
