British Light Freight
This is my small British freight train, consisting of my
Black Saddle tank loco and two brand new pieces of rolling stock. I'll discuss each component from front to back.
The Locomotive is the Little Black Saddle Tank, which I made some minor edits to this afternoon. The two differences are that she now has an engineer (not visible in these photos), and I gave her some spiffy gold number plates.
The green box van and the blue coal cart are products of about 2 hours' work. Basically, I felt like building some train stuff today, and I figured some more rolling stock was a good idea. So, I pulled out my LEGO bins and went to work. Both of these cars were built totally ad lib, using pieces I had sitting around. Unfortunately, I didn't have enough wheels and couplers, so the mini hopper and auto transport wagon are going unused. Oh well. Anyway, about the box van. She is, as you may have gathered, a British-style small box van, sporting a lovely green coat of paint (ha ha!). This car is actually two firsts for me. She is my first Box Car of any type, and she's my first train thing to be built in green, though I do intend to design at least ONE green loco (perhaps my 0F model). One thing I should mention, getting the pieces for this van was a challenge. I don't have much in the way of green pieces, so I had to really dig to get all the bits I needed.
The blue coal cart is just something I wanted to make. Until now my only blue rolling stock was the Auto Transport Wagon, and that only had blue accents. I wanted something fuller, more brick-ful (as of this moment, that is a valid word). So, I scraped together all my blue 45 degree slopes and a few bricks and voila! instant coal cart. She's unique in my collection in that she is only 10 studs long, making her basically the smallest acceptable size for a piece of L-gauge
rolling stock.
