Javelin SST

For years, AMC (American Motors Corporation) had built their reputation, their brand, on 'economy'. So when the 'muscle car' phenomenon came along a bit later, in the mid-1960s, AMC had to 'scramble' to get in on the act. Thus, the Javelin became the company's answer to the wildly popular Ford Mustang. Problem was, it arrived four years too late. The Javelin was certainly a neat-looking car, especially the original 1968-70 series, but it never really caught on, and AMC discontinued it after the 1974 model year. Shown above is one of the second (1971-74) series cars.

At first, from across the street, I wasn't sure what I was looking at-----I had to cross over to verify my suspicions. But now that all Javelins are fifty-plus years of age, I'm guessing that they're pretty scarce on the ground. They've got to be-----I mean, there weren't a lot of them to begin with!
