Glyphipterix simpliciella, near Longtown, 17 May 22 (3 of 3)

Glyphipterix simpliciella micro-moths by Wilkins' Pool near Longtown, 17 May 22.

The photos show three of about ten specimens seen nectaring on a small patch of Common Field-speedwell. This is only the second time that I've recorded this species - the previous occasion being at Orton Moss on 6 June 21. However, they were so abundant here today in the vicinity of the pond that I can only assume that I just haven't noticed them before due to their diminutive size.

Interestingly, I checked out hundreds of speedwell plants along a 2km length of the River Esk to the north of the Longtown road bridge later in the day, and didn't find a single one!
