Lesser Thorn-tipped Longhorn Beetle, Finglandrigg Wood, 29 May 20 (2 of 2)

Lesser Thorn-tipped Longhorn Beetle (Pogonocherus hispidus) found on a fencepost in the Finglandrigg Wood Nature Reserve, 29 May 20.

I've seen so many Greater Thorn-tipped Longhorn Beetles in the Carlisle area over the past few years that I stopped recording them some time ago. However, this is the first time I've found a P. hispidus as opposed to a P. hispidulus! In fact I discovered two of them at different locations, but only managed to get a decent shot of the second one (Photo 1), which I also managed to collect. It was later measured with my calibrated microscope at about 5mm in length (Photo 2).

NBN Atlas shows that the vast majority of Pogonocherus hispidus sightings have been made in the southern half of the UK; additionally iRecord currently has no entries for Cumbria.
