Burke's Station
Burke's Station, built ca. 1857 by the Orange & Alexandria Railroad. Now an insurance office and consignment shop. Thought to have been built as early as 1857 for the Orange & Alexandria. (Burke's Station was established as a Post Office in 1852.) The Southern Railway alignment was relocated away from the station in 1904 and additions have been made to the original station structure. After its use as a railway station, the building was adaptively reused used as a school, Burke Methodist Church, and a commercial building. It now houses an insurance agency in the front and a ladies clothing consignment shop at the rear. The consignment shop at the rear in this photo appears to be the remaining portion of the original post-Civil War station structure. The railway right-of-way passed to the right, where an addition has been built out. 9415 Old Burke Lake Road.
