FIT + Black Hole: One Star
As requested, here is an image of just one of the 12 stars required to make this: www.flickr.com/photos/8303956@N08/5837827315/
The curvature seen in the star here is created by the angle I used for the tabs on this end. In the fully assembled model, the edges are forced to be bent even farther than in this picture.
It is unfortunate that the woven star in the middle gets hidden in the model as it ends up underneath some other stuff. This is also the reason why the full assembly is tricky... getting the second half of stars woven under everything else is not so straight-forward.
To maybe help with some understanding of how the full assembly works... The final model has a convex hull of a dodecahedron. Each star is centered under a pentagonal face. The star which represents the "top" face has the 5 edges extended down to the lower set of 5 equatorial points.
