Trapezoid Propellers Backlit
This past week I was on vacation with my family visiting my brother in the Seattle area ... Armed with nothing but a pack of 6" kami to keep myself entertained during the long plane & car rides, this was one of the resulting tessellations...
The planning of this particular tessellation consumed a majority of my folding-time over the past week... I came up with my first rough draft for this prior to leaving, and proceeded to fold it out of the vellum stuff that my first tess was folded from, only to get very frustrated with the material during collapsing, and to be unsatisfied with the end result.
I vowed to redesign it and fold it from better paper, but of course 6" kami was my only resource... This version has some layers rearranged and some points unsunk from the original version... The other notable improvement is that I planned out the grid to have the tessellation centered (since the center of each propeller is NOT at the intersection on the grid, I had previously ignored trying to place the tess symmetrically on the grid)...
This was folded from a 44-triangle grid (yes, I had to fold 11ths >_<)... I plan on making a bigger one with more propellers that requires a grid of 74ths (thus requiring 37ths, ugh)...
