Impact Testing bearings investigations - point of impact
During Feb/March 1987 tests were carried out in the RTC sidings to assess wagon axle bearing damage due to shunting impacts. 08021 'Eric' was used to loose shunt instrumented wagons into stationary loaded wagons at speeds up to 8 mile/h.
This is the point of impact between the OCA wagon on the left and the loaded stationary wagon on the right. The buffers are fully compressed.
