Poor AND insane

- was a real bad combination in 1852 when the Hon. Mrs. Mills had to work this sampler to avert the Wrath and Hot Displeasure of The Lord. It probably whiled away long hours in the West Riding Pauper Lunatic Asylum, Wakefield, but you can read the despair and torment in every tight black stitch. Nowadays, she'd have a few Prozacs and a glass of Chardonnay while holding down a well-paid executive job. Property of Wakefield Museum.
