Hotel Alcazar Spa

The former Hotel Alcazar was designed by New York City architects Carrère and Hastings in a Spanish revival style. The Start of the spa took it's inspiration from classic Greek and Roman design. Built in 1889 it was the last word in luxury.

A series of spa rooms were connected to a suite of rooms surrounded by a Doric peristyle. The rooms contained a gym, plunge pool and relaxaction areas.

The peristyle rooms and ambulatory area above are now used as decorative arts galleries by the Lightner Museum. Parts of the original spa function rooms are still in situ.
