Then and now. Mount Vernon Hotel Museum & Garden, formerly the Abigail Adams Smith Museum is dwarfed my modern buildings. Built in 1799 it began life as a stable and carriage house. In 1826 it was converted into a country hotel, this was at a time when residential construction ended at Chelsea.
