The future looms
Sizewell looms on the horizon beyond Minsmere reserve reedbeds. What will the future bring? Signs on the roads in the local area already point to the new roads that will shortly be built to serve the construction site of Sizewell C.
The RSPB and Suffolk Wildlife Trust have expressed concern about both the plant itself and the new access works. They are worried that the influx of unfamiliar lights and loud noise will impact the wildlife. Those involved in the construction promise to keep noise and light to the minimum but any noise and light will disturb the rhythm of wildlife.
On the plus side there will be new foraging grounds to encourage marsh harriers, new trees planted and a new wetland wildlife area between the boundary of Sizewell and that of Minsmere. Both parties are concerned about further coastal erosion. The construction will still take several years to complete. We must hope that new ways are found to sort the problems in a positive way.
