Paper spitfire skeleton

The Potteries Museum and Art Gallery in Hanley, Stoke on Trent, is the home of one of the surviving examples of the Spitfire fighter plane but the plane itself is currently under restoration and its place has been taken by a fascinating fullsize 'skeleton' of the design.

This smaller paper example by artist, Suhail Shaikh is also on display in the museum beside the full-sized replica skeleton made in steel by apprentices at KMF who were directed by the same artist.

The plane is known as Vera and, as the artist chose, is presented free of national markings or weapons, to represent the human spirit as a whole, beyond nationality, borders and conflict.
