Let Glasgow flourish
Now housing a branch of Subway, this heavily decorated building in the centre of Northampton was originally a warehouse for the leather and hide importing firm of Malcolm Inglis & Co of Glasgow. There had always been close links between Scotland and Northamptonshire on account of the drove roads which passed close by and Northampton was famous for boot and shoe making. The town produced, for example, 600 pairs of boots and 4,000 pairs of shoes for Cromwell's army and also made boots for Wellington's army a couple of centuries later.
The warehouse is faced with decorative stone work , with a bull's head on each side of the centre panel, a list of places to which, presumably, the company also had connections and, rather oddly, in the arch above the doorway, the coat of arms of Glasgow.
