WWII memorial window
1955 war memorial window, designed by Edward Liddall Armitage and made by James Powell & Sons (Whitefriars) for whom he was chief designer. In honour of the men of Bomber Command who gave their lives in WWII, it is a tribute to those of the 2nd, 3rd, 8th and 100th groups.
In addition to badges of the RAF, the window remembers other allies, including the New Zealand, French, Dutch, Polish and Czech airforces. St Michael and St George are flanked by pictures of airmen and below are roundels showing the aircraft in action, including one of a Wellington bomber over-flying Ely cathedral.
