East window

St Andrew's church, Scole. This striking East window was designed and made by Patrick Reyntiens and installed in the church in 1964, following a disastrous arson attack of the previous year.

Reyntiens himself stated that he wished to convey detail and colour, 'individually suppressed and fused together into an expressive whole'.

The three lights illustrate scenes from the Bible, with Old Testament stories in the base being echoed higher up the window by the New Testament event which they foretold. Thus Moses and the fiery serpent foretells the Crucifixion, Jonah emerging from the whale hints at the Resurrection and Elijah's fiery chariot suggests the Ascension.
