Possum - Feb 2008

Possum was adopted from the Australian Cavy Sanctuary. This photo was taken in the first hour she was at home with us. Hence the shocked look. lol.

We weren't planning on adopting a pig (at this stage we had two from ACS, Pica and Pippin), but after seeing her photo on the messageboards and hearing her story we fell in love (it was love at first sight for Bort).

Before she came to ACS, Possum was apparently kept alone on kitty litter and fed bird seed. She was tiny when we got her and quite thin. She's fattened up over the year we've had her but she has barely grown. She has now been outstripped by our baby pig Pan who was born in September 2008. We think that Possum may have been stunted by the poor nutrition of her youth. Apart from her small stature her back legs are very bandy, they kind of splay out too far, like she's been riding a horse and is sore... She also lost one of her bottom teeth a month after we adopted her (it of course grew back).

Possum is a bit of an odd pig, and we are still only just coming to appreciate her personality fully. She doesn't seem to need or want any particular interaction with our other pigs Pippin and Pan. She is a bit of a loner. She looooves Bort though, and if I have her out she will walk off me and go and sit on Bort's chest instead!!!! lol. I try to not take it personally!

She is a sweety, and we always say she's the academic pig of the bunch. She always seems to be pondering big issues and questions.
