Another great Victorian engineering feat, lost to the modern world
The surreal image of dwellings on the track bed at the North end of old Whitby Railway Station. Built on what had until the mid 1960s been the railway that ran from Scarborourgh through Robin Hood's Bay, Whitby and onto Saltburn by the Sea. Constructed in the 1880s, the line closely followed the North Yorkshire coast with incredible views of the North Sea and its dramatic coastline; it was by all accounts, one of the most scenic railways ever built in Britain.
