Original prototype with the Bendix toggle and a short length of cable. I later realized that using a cable with stops on both ends would not work with the downtube shifter I wanted to use. The solution was to add a small stainless steel nail to the barrel adjuster and use a Sturmey Archer pinch bolt bracket to hold the cable end.
