Composting
One sustainable farming practice is composting. Compost is the main foundation of organic gardening. It improves the structure, water holding, and aeration of soil that is not ideal. Grass clippings and kitchen scraps provide nitrogen, straw provides carbon, and things like eggshells, dried blood, coffee grounds, and even hair, provide much needed minerals, but also may deter unwanted pests. This waste is combined and over time breaks down. The end compost is spread on and around crops releasing all of these benefits naturally. They are fertilized without chemicals that pollute our air and eliminate toxins that would later be present in our food.
