School Bus

This photo was taken after it had rained, and a window screen had collected water droplets, and images of a school bus could be seen in every water droplet. Adhesion causes the water to be attracted to the metal screen, while cohesion causes the water molecules to bond together; therefore the water is suspended in the screen. The water droplet acts as a lens, and since the adhesion force is greater than the cohesion force, the lens is thinner in the center than at the edges effectively creating a double concave diverging lens. Light is reflecting off the bus, and then refracting through the lens. The refracted light seems to come from a point between the bus and the screen, this point serves as the location of the image. However, because the light does not emerge from that point, the image is a virtual image.
