LOTR:LCG Alt Art. Gandalf v Balrog 2/9 – Gonzalo Kenny
EDIT: revised version with improved border bleed space for superior printing is here www.flickr.com/photos/7876498@N07/49659192421/in/album-72...
This incredible illustration by Gonzalo Kenny from 2012 is well known throughout the internet and is representative of some of the best Moria Balrog encounter artwork around.
It is now repurposed as a LOTR:LCG event card. I used a mirror image of the original artwork to put the staff in Gandalf’s left hand, and Glamdring in the right – consistent with Tolkien’s original text.
I also added some 3D overlays over the card title, and raised the color temperature of the Balrog to make him more fiery. Lastly, a slight extension of the lower border framed the image nicely relative to the game card elements.
The flavor text is from the novels, and differs slightly from the popular movie version.
