Raven - Alert
Raven (Corvus corax)
The largest member of the crow family. They are highly intelligent creatures capable of using tools and vocalizing complex calls. Ravens are known for their deep, gravelly croaking sound, distinct from the caw of a crow.
The Common Raven is a large all-black bird, a member of the crow family. It is massive, the biggest member of the crow family. Look for its large bill and long wings. In flight, it shows a diamond-shaped tail. Ravens breed mainly in the west and north although they are currently expanding their range eastwards. Often seen in pairs or small family groups. Males, females and juveniles all look similar.
What they lack in colour corvids definitely make up for in brain power – they’re some of the smartest animals on the planet and their entertaining antics are fascinating to watch!
There are currently 7,400 breeding pairs in the UK.
UK Conservation status: Green. A "Green" assessment signifies a species is either "Fully Recovered" or "Non-Depleted" and is ecologically functional across its historical, indigenous range.
