Lesson 1

Hello All,

I am Justin Brown and I am originally from Wilson/Rocky Mount area in NC. I have recently graduated from ECU, but I am taking this class as a cool way to finish up some remaining credits and gain some experience in documenting my lifestyle. I am an avid outdoor adventurer and lead trips with the ECU Adventure Program. Most of my shots are outdoors, since that is where my passion lies, however I would like to gain some experience with indoor shots in this class. I would also like to gain knowledge of software photo editing tricks so I may use them personally or in marketing with outdoor companies.

My experience thus far with photography is somewhat limited. This shot was actually one of the few I took myself, the rest were done by friends with really nice cameras. I myself have had a GoPro Hero HD camera to record photo and video of me doing outdoor sports, but nothing like the SLR I have recently picked up. The GoPro you can set to automatically take photos in time increments, so a great shot becomes a product of mostly luck, and not photography. I hope to gain better skills in timing shots to personally catch the action! My favorite photographer is Ansel Adams. He was an outdoor conservationist and used his photos to show the beauty of Yosemite National Park, which eventually brought environmental protection to the area and expansion of conserved lands by the US government. I relate well to his passion and would like to continue that adventurous spirit through my photos.
