Mittel-IIIN

In 1941 the Merthan design bureau in Siouxfalls added additional armored plating to increase the protection on the Mittel 3 tank. The main armament was swapped out for a 75mm short barreled gun to fight infantry, and fortifications. This gun was also effective against some older tank designs. The upgrades didn't provide much protection against newer tanks, but did help bridge the gap somewhat. It was determined that a longer 75mm gun would be needed to penetrate enemy armor. Luckily the previous year the Schläger III Tank destroyer was designed on the Mittel 3 chassis, and equipped with such a gun allowing it to destroy most enemy medium tanks of the era.
