Question Answers:
a. I have observed that this plot of land I am studying is essentially a valley with steep slopes on every side surrounding it. The slopes are covered in trees, mainly Eucalyptus and various small plant life forms. The pond is large and surrounded by fencing for the most part, has many trees surrounding it and is filled with ducks.
B. The water moved towards my pond, down the slopes.
C. There is a small building about 50 feet from the pond as well as a small sitting area. Also at the top of the slope of the left hand side are many houses. Past the slopes on the other sides are houses as well. Then there is a parking lot about 1/2 mile from the start of the pond.
D. Carbon, Nitrogen, and Phosphorus are entering the ecosystem through rainwater. They are in our atmosphere and when it rains the water carries the particles with it. Also as the rainwater washes down the slopes it carried with it each of these as it picks them up from the ground.
E. Carbon will be most prevalent in plants as it is used for their building blocks and used for photosynthesis. Nitrogen will be most commonly found in anything that is decomposing, so most likely at the bottom of the pond and in the hills and grass. Phosphorus will be most common either in the hillside if there is much phosphorus in the rocks or in the pond from runoff.
F.We could collect the water or rock to collect phosphorus. We could eat or use the plants however we choose in order to gain carbon. And we could collect decomposing matter to collect the Nitrogen.
G. The Landscape affects where organisms live in that they move away from being near humans and their pets that frequent the park area. The majority of organisms live on the hillside, occupying many niches. Some live in the soil while others may live in the tops of the trees. The landscape allows for a wide range of niches because of its multiple type of trees and plant life, it's range or flat land to hillside, and it's large source of water.
An organism may affect that abiotic factors we have discussed by changing the soil content. For instance, having a wide variety of plant life on the hillside help to keep it more stable and less likely to have landslide due to rainfall. Also the decomposers are helping to keep the soil rich in order for the plants to grow there in the first place.
