Maggots
My compost container is covered and full of maggots. It is only plant matter in it so I was at a loss as to where all the maggots are coming from. The internet said the little on are just called "compost maggots", the bigger one are " Soldier Fly Maggots". They are in the compost because it is too rich in nitrates and I need to add carbons ( dried leaves, dry pine needles, shredded newspaper...) and that will reduce maggot infestations. They are gross but do a good job of breaking down the plant matter.
