Family affair
The Black-shouldered Kites of Braeside have established their most convenient food transfer place on a dead tree inside the wetland. The male usually comes with a prey, prepares it for consumption on another tree and brings it to this branch. The female emerges a few seconds later from the tree where their nest is hidden. Quite often she comes from the back and inserts her head between the male's legs to grab the prey with her beak. Here it has just been released by the male and she's ready to return to their nest.
