A Common Starling alone is a rare sight. This one was foraging on the lava rocks uncovered at low tide in Port Phillip Bay.
I'll quote from BirdLife Australia again - "Although the Common Starling is an introduced pest in Australia, it has at least one redeeming feature: when starlings mass into enormous flocks known as murmurations, usually just before roosting, the aerobatic displays they perform are absolutely spectacular..."
Being a pest myself, I see more than one redeeming feature in this bird ;-)
