Interestingly, the rake of wagons on the left are being loaded with ballast, whilst those on the right are being loaded with sand.
For anyone not familiar with the location, it's near Gravesend, Kent and only a mile away from the Thames, with it's own jetty for Dredgers to deliver dredged aggregate. This is transported to the wash & grading plant by a conveyor.
There is a run round loop / reception siding behind the camera. The loco runs around the train of empties and then propels it into the loading area, nine wagons on each of road four & five, as seen in the image.
Wagons can also be loaded by the overhead conveyor to the left, on roads one & two, but both the conveyor and trackwork were undergoing maintenance when we visited.
