Cold Mother
Time for a look back to a better time in railroading, but the same type of crappy May weather.
Taken on May 10th, 1990, Soo 6619 and companion 6612 pass the Oconomowoc depot umbrella shed eastbound at reduced speed on account of numerous trees down along the right of way which ended up taking the ABS signal system down. Some crossing gates were affected as well. The culprit is a very late season snow storm - May 10th is a bit late to get 6" of snow......
This being my senior year of high school, classes were canceled due to the storm so what do you do when there's no school? Head trackside with a camera! Dodging downed trees and power lines, I made it to the depot and was able to capture the rather unusual event with some classic power.

30 years later, I just checked the thermometer and it's reading 38 degrees while the rain continues to fall. A few more ticks lower and we just might repeat this scene today. By far the coldest mothers day I ever recall.
Happy Mothers day to all - stay warm!
