Stopping by woods on a swampy evening (3 of 3)

Robert Frost no doubt would have parked and pondered, "why is this swampy spot at the top of a hill?" Or, possibly, "Why have these trees at the top of a hill drowned?"

 

This brings to mind Inspector Grandpierre in the film Charade, who began an investigation saying, "A man drowned in his bed -- impossible!"
