The Marching Men Assemble for their Photograph
A long sandy road leads through the slickrock, PJ shrubland and grasses into the more remote northern edge of Arches National Park. It is easy to imagine Ed Abbey tossing his empty beer can into the back of his pickup as he patrolled the area over 50 years ago seeking a bit of Desert Solitaire.
Bill and I enjoyed the surprising solitude on a Saturday afternoon hike to Tower Arch past the Marching Men, who lined up cooperatively for their now famous portrait (www.flickr.com/photos/wdbowman/15322767224/).
