(New series:) Notes from the train (4)
Train travelling is tantalizing: all those wonderful photos out there that one has no chance to take. Train travels are wonderful generators of photos in the head: so many diverse sights, moving by at their own speed; unexpected turns and elements moving and shifting alongside the moving train; so many wonderful perspectives on the backyards of cities, rough and unrefined. Still, these photos remain in the head; you know that you are never going to make all those shots. Shooting through the windows of the train is significantly less than taking notes for future elaboration; technically imperfect by necessity, not framed precisely, exposure not under control, and of course taking down a moment that is never to be recovered, and never to be seen more carefully. Still, I found it worthwhile to give in to the impulse to take such notes.
