Migratory Grasshopper male

Male of the Migratory Grasshopper, Melanoplus sanguinipes. This, ironically, is the ideal perspective on male Melanoplus spp. The rear end tells you everything. In this case, the notch at the tip, and the dimple beneath it, are diagnostic for the species. All other characters can be unreliable, including color of hind tibia (shin).
